Alex is a highly experienced coach and event organiser. With his keen eye for detail and strong ‘can-do’ attitude, Alex is responsible for all of SideOut’s operations and events management.

Alex’s playing career began in his native France in 1995 with Vincennes Volleyball Club, with whom he reached the Cadet and Junior National Cup Finals on 2 occasions, before moving on to the clubs of Asniers and Plessis Robinson where he continued to grow and thrive as a junior player with a career-best 3rd place finish in the Junior National Cup Finals. He then returned to Vincennes V.C. to begin his senior career and led the team to promotion from National Division 2 to National Division 1 in 2000.

After moving to England, Alex played for Guildford and London Docklands before transferring to Polonia London Volleyball Club in 2010. At Polonia, he joined forces with coach Vangelis Koutouleas and made an immediate impact as the team’s starting setter. In Alex’s first season with Polonia, the team won the 2011 Super 8 Championships – their first National League title in 26 years. The following season, under the guidance of another SideOut coach, Babis Mamas, Alex helped lead the team to the finals of both the Super 8 and the National Cup. In 2012 Alex was reunited with Vangelis as he transferred to Wessex VC and became the team’s starting setter, playing a vital role in leading them to National League and National Cup glory in April 2013.

Alex has also been an active coach and event organiser since 1999, when he started in his role as Volleyball Coordinator in France’s District 93 with responsibility for creating links between clubs, associations and educational institutions – experience that he continues to draw upon to this day as he leads SideOut’s schools programmes. He has also organised several national sports events for FSGT (Fédération Sportive et Gymnique du Travail) in France with the aim of bringing sport to young persons in deprived areas.

Alex’s coaching career in France has seen him serve as coach for the Vincennes Junior Boys, the Saint-Denis Men’s Team and the Junior Boys National Team that participated in the European Championships. In England, he has coached junior volleyball at the American Community School in Egham and the American School of London, with 2nd and 3rd place finishes in prestigious international competitions.

At senior level, Alex has served as assistant coach and then head coach of Wessex Ladies in the Super 8s division of the Volleyball England National League. He also coached team Powerball (part of London Spikers Volleyball Club) to promotion to Division 1 of the London League and their sister team, Fireball, to one of their most successful seasons. He has also served as Head Coach of the Royal Holloway (University of London) Volleyball Club

He is currently the Head Coach of the England Women's National Beach Volleyball Team of Jessica Grimson and Victoria Palmer who are aiming to compete in the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
