SideOut was Vangelis Koutouleas’ idea – his spark, his vision. Without him, we simply wouldn’t exist.

As our co-founder, he shaped SideOut’s identity from day one back in 2011, and his philosophy still guides everything we do. A lifelong coach and former international athlete in both volleyball and beach volleyball, Vangelis poured his heart into the sport for decades – first in his home country of Greece, and later in the UK, Cyprus and internationally. In 2022, we lost him far too soon – but his spirit lives on through the Vangelis Legacy Fund.

Vangelis Koutouleas was far more than a coach – he was a mentor, a friend, an inspiration. Known for his rhythmic, intentional style of training, he transformed athletes into dream-chasers by blending skill with joy and passion. His selflessness, generosity and huge heart meant “no” was rarely in his vocabulary when someone asked for help. His greatest reward? Seeing his players and their families shine, progress, and grow together – both on and off the court.

The Vangelis Legacy Fund carries this spirit forward, breaking down financial barriers so young people can discover and thrive in volleyball and beach volleyball. Whether they’re beginners or aspiring Olympians, the Fund supports athletes who might otherwise miss the chance to reach their potential.

Though Vangelis is no longer with us, his impact – and his philosophy – lives on. The Fund reflects the values he lived by: community, generosity, and relentless belief in every player he supported.
